Troy releases women's basketball schedule

Troy Athletics recently announced the full schedule for the Troy Trojans women’s basketball team, which is highlighted by matchups with two Southeastern Conference opponents with the opportunity to play a third.

The Trojans start with two exhibition games. The first is at home against Pensacola State, before traveling on the road to Mississippi State. Once the season officially starts, the Trojans go on the road for eight straight games.

The team starts the season on the road in the cold as they travel to Buffalo for the Mid-American Conference-Sun Belt Conference Challenge on Nov. 4. Then, Troy travels to face Montana State three days later on Nov. 7.

The next three games for the Trojans include two SEC foes as they travel to face Alabama and the 2023 National Champions, LSU, on the road with a stop at Chattanooga in between the two.

That’s not it for the adventurous Trojans as they next make a trip up to Alaska for the Great Alaska Shootout where they play Alaska-Anchorage on Nov. 22 before playing Vermont or North Dakota State on Nov.23.

After a quick stop at Mississippi Valley State on Dec. 1, the team finally comes home to Trojan Arena when they play Oakwood on Dec. 4 and Memphis ten days later.

“We hope to pick up where we left off and begin our home games playing in front of great Trojan crowds,” said head coach Chanda Rigby in an interview with Troy Athletics.

Before conference play, the team travels for one more invitational, this time to Cherokee, North Carolina, where they play Toledo before playing either SEC opponent Arkansas or Conference-USA opponent Liberty on Dec. 19 in the Cherokee Invitational.

In conference play, the Trojans start strong with a trip to reigning Sun Belt Conference runner-up James Madison on Dec. 29, while playing host to reigning Sun Belt regular and tournament champions Marshall on Jan. 4.

Other notable conference games include Troy versus in-state rival South Alabama at Troy on Jan. 16, before holding a game against Louisiana -- who eliminated the Trojans from last year's conference tournament -- on Jan. 18.

Troy makes the return trip to Louisiana on Jan. 25 and returns to Mobile on Feb. 22 to play the Jaguars again. The Trojans also play host to the second leg of the MAC-SBC Challenge on Feb. 8 against a to-be-announced opponent.

The Trojans look to do some damage in conference play after loading up the non-conference schedule with quality opponents. Catch your first glimpse of the Trojans when they play Pensacola State in a preseason scrimmage.
