After a hard-fought match Troy came up short against ULM with a score of 1-0, dropping to 4-3-1 and 0-1 in conference play.
“I thought we lost to an individual piece of genius by No. 23 [ULM midfielder Mara Grutkamp],” said head coach Stuart Gore.
In the second half, the Trojans created opportunities to level the match with eight shots, but they ultimately ran out of time before they could net an equalizer. Troy outshot ULM 14-10.
“I thought in the second half we were the better team,” said Gore. “I think we ran out of time.
“If you give us another five minutes, I think we can put one in.”
Redshirt junior Jiselle Daniels, a transfer from Saint Joseph’s, played her first game with the Trojans. She tallied four shots and tied a career high with two shots on goal in 66 minutes.
“I’ve been waiting a year and a half to watch that,” said Gore. “Everything she does she does the exact same at practice every day.
“It’s great to have Jiselle back.”
The Trojans look to get back on track in Sun Belt Conference play at home Thursday when they play host to the Georgia State Panthers. Georgia State is 1-5-3 and opened conference play with a draw against Marshall last Sunday.
“Hopefully we can bounce back against Georgia State and play well and put the game away,” said Gore.
The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
