The Student Made store held a pop-up in celebration of Valentine’s Day in the Lamar P. Higgins Ballrooms on Friday. Each store is run by a student entrepreneur, and many of their items are handmade.
Troy University’s Student Made store helps students with the entrepreneurial spirit launch their businesses. Over 10 stores had booths set up selling their products.
Jessica Roberts, a senior interdisciplinary studies major from Tallahassee, Florida, was set up with her shop, Jaxon Lane Boutique.
“I do women’s clothing, a trucker hat bar, and I also have sewing items, such as laptop sleeves, book sleeves, and pouches,” Roberts said.
One initiative Student Made takes is that it often does pop-ups both on campus and around the city of Troy at different events. Student businesses that are part of Student Made can set up tables at these events and display their products and make them more visible.
Pop-ups, like the one on Friday, are very beneficial for Roberts’ business. They create new networking opportunities around the community.
“I get to connect with other entrepreneurs and meet other people in the Troy community, so it helps people to get to know my business,” Roberts said.
Summer Gilbert, a junior accounting major from Enterprise, Alabama, stumbled across the event on her way into Trojan Center. She was intrigued by the products displayed on each table.
“I like cute, handmade stuff,” Gilbert said. “I really liked Jaxon Lane Boutique and the sewn book sleeves.”
Troy’s Student Made store has seventeen shops to explore, with products such as art, jewelry, apparel, cosmetics and crochet. Its in-person store is located in Downtown Troy next to the Idea Bank and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
