Troy track and field teams divide and conquer at Auburn, ECU

A portion of the Troy track and field team finished in third at the Bill Carson Invitational at East Carolina University, while more Trojans competed in events at the Tiger Classic in Auburn, Alabama.

 

The Trojans earned a third-place finish at ECU, behind a first-place performance by the men in the 4×100 relay event and a first-place showing from junior Zach Douglas in the shot put event.

 

Between the men’s and women’s teams the Trojans competed in 44 events. The men racked up 121.50 points while the women accrued 104.50.

 

With a finish of 40.81 seconds, the men earned 10 points to accompany a first place finish in the 4×100 relay. Senior Myles Charley of Hoover, snagged 10 points for the Trojans with a 7.66-meter long jump in the triple jump, finishing with 15 total points.

 

Douglas, a junior from Cullman, brought home 16 points. Douglas earned 10 points with his first place finish in the shot put competition.

 

His toss tore through 18.22 meters of open air to land a personal season-best and a school record for the Alabamian. His discus throw notched another six points for the Trojans and earned a third-place finish.

 

Sophomore Sydney Wright finished first in the 100-meter dasher with an 11.72 time, and the Columbus, Georgia, native earned 10 points for the Trojans. The women’s 4×400 relay team also took 10 points with a first-place finish with a time of 3:57:52.

 

Junior Corina Cox of Los Fresnos, Texas, claimed 10 points with a 51.45-meter discus throw. Sophomore Jaevyn Worthham of Township, Michigan, snapped up eight points with a 50.94-meter discus throw.

 

At the Tiger Classic, junior Samantha Smith of Sonora, California, finished the 5,000-meter race in 18th. Her time of 18:30.15 was her best finish of the year.

 

Quienterria Stallworth, a sophomore from Millbrook, marked a season-best finish with a 12.97 second 100-meter dash. Long Beach, California, native Jason Iles also had a season-best finish with a 15.76 second time in the 110-meter hurdles.

 

The Trojans travel to Mobile to participate in the USA Invitational/Multi on April 15-16.
