Troy Volleyball gets much needed conference victory over Rajin’ Cajuns at home

Troy volleyball (7-11) beat Louisiana-Lafayette (11-7) in straight sets (25-20, 25-21, and 25-21) on Friday night at home.

Junior outside hitter Marija Zelenovic led the team in kills with 12 while sophomore Blair Winston finished the day with nine kills.

Senior setter, Alexandra Alexander, had a double-double with her 27 assists and 16 digs.

Alexander is just 365 assists away from becoming the third setter in Troy’s history to reach 3,000 assists and 1,000 digs in her career.

Troy took advantage of a flat footed Louisiana-Lafayette team in the first set to take it 25-20.

In the second set, wearing down the Rajin’ Cajuns with solid digwork and a strong attack kept the momentum in the Trojans’ end of the court for the 25-21 set victory with the third set looming.

ULL fought Troy to end in the final set but the Trojans were able to fend off the conference foe to claim the straight set victory 25-21 and their second Sun Belt victory of the season.

The Trojans’ next game will be at home on Monday at 11:00 a.m. against UALR.

The match was originally scheduled for Sunday at noon but due to an incoming tropical storm that is projected to hit the coast this weekend the game was bumped to Monday.

“We got this win and it feels great, but now we are on to the next team,” said graduate assistant coach Lizzie Clough.
