Troy University recently welcomed three new communications coordinators to its team. This new team of communication coordinators will serve as a liaison over their designated colleges and will facilitate communication efforts within each college.
Whitney Bowers is the new communication coordinator for the College of Communications and Fine Arts (CCFA). Bowers is a Troy graduate, earning her undergraduate degree in broadcast journalism in 2017.
She then pursued her master's degree in strategic communications in 2019. After graduating with her masters, Bowers gained some experience at WSFA 12 News and the marketing department at Troy before beginning her current position as coordinator.
“It’s been a lot of fun,” Bowers said. “I have really enjoyed getting to learn more about the college that I was kind of produced from as a Hall School of Journalism graduate.”
Some of Bower’s responsibilities consist of organizing blog posts, updating social media posts, press releases and more.
“I'm always asking myself how to get the word out about how awesome Troy is through CCFA and all the incredible things that are happening within the college,” Bowers said. “I think the students and alumni that come from CCFA are incredible and I'm really proud of everyone.”
Bowers shared how Troy holds a very special place in her heart since she graduated from Troy and her parents also went to Troy.
“Storytelling is still relevant and is still an incredible way to communicate with people,” Bowers said. “I would like to keep working on finding and highlighting those stories.”
Kait Nesbitt is the new communications coordinator for the College of Health Sciences. She graduated from Troy in 2019 with a bachelor’s in graphic design.
Nesbitt had experience in marketing positions, advertising sales and social media management before beginning her current coordinator position last November.
“I enjoy it,” Nesbitt said. “I was able to come in, hit the ground running and help facilitate, allowing me to grow and learn in this process.”
Nesbitt talked about the numerous projects the College of Health Sciences has planned, the primary one being Jones Hall opening for students.
“It’s been a lot of gearing up for this big, new chapter that we’re entering into,” Nesbitt said. “I can’t wait for that success where we will see the College of Health Sciences grow even further and be able to mold and shape for the future.
“That’s what I'm looking forward to being a part of.”
Nesbitt expressed her gratitude for her new current position and how special Troy really is to her.
“Troy's been my home for forever,” Nesbitt said. “I’m surrounded by a very intelligent group of people, who are extremely hard working. It encourages me to do better personally and professionally.
“My favorite part is being able to brag on this college and family I'm a part of and being able to share with others what’s so amazing about it.”
Elizabeth Ann Webb is the new communications coordinator for the College of Education. She graduated from Troy this past December with a bachelor’s degree in communication before beginning her current position this month
She interned at Short the Squirrel, a business founded by two Troy alumni which supports children’s literacy, where she was the social media manager. She later transitioned to a project manager position at the same business.
Webb shared her gratitude for the opportunities she had to engage with various teachers, faculty, state legislatures and stakeholders involved in the field of education across the state of Alabama, which helped her get to where she is today in the College of Education.
“It has been really fun to learn how things work,” Webb said. “The team is awesome, there’s a great work environment and I'm just really excited to be a part of it.”
Webb was excited to share some of her ideas she wished to achieve in this position and goals she hoped to see come to fruition.
“I would love to share those Troy stories about personal life,” Webb said.“If I could have a dream come true for this role, it would be having a weekly shoutout, talking to students about their achievements and shining the light on how Troy is different than other schools.”
Webb emphasized the importance of taking advantage of the opportunities.“I think it’s already giving a valuable experience,” Webb said. “I'm so lucky to be here surrounded by people who have had a world of knowledge.
“Experience is nonrefundable. If you ever have an opportunity to get experience, you should take it.”
