Each year, a formal dance is held at Troy University for students to attend and enjoy a night of dancing and dressing up like it’s prom night. This year’s formal will be no different.

The theme for this year’s formal is Unity in Bloom, where pastel colors will be the color scheme. Unity in Bloom will be on April 18 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in the Lamar P. Higgins Ballroom.

This event is the first collaboration between Troy University’s Activities Council, 101 E.L.I.T.E Men, The Troy University M.I.S.S. Elite Society and Troy International Programs.

“The theme was chosen mostly because it’s a spring formal, so all the trees are starting to get back their color,” said UAC’s Movie Coordinator Tayjo Oppong-ADJEI, a junior sports management major from Turks and Caicos. “That is also why the color palette chosen was pastel colors.

“It is also meant to promote togetherness here at Troy amongst the student body.”

The decorations will be inspired by a flower garden, using national flowers to represent different countries.

The formal is free for all students. Students can expect a night filled with music, energy, dancing and a fully decorated venue that reflects the Unity in Bloom theme.

There will be live entertainment, refreshments and plenty of opportunities to take memorable photos.

It’s a chance to dress up, socialize and celebrate the diversity and unity at Troy University.

“The most exciting aspect of the event that I'm looking forward to is seeing students come together in a positive and celebratory atmosphere,” said Troy 101 E.L.I.T.E Men’s Public Relation Chair Ty’ Quavious Hurley, a sophomore business administration major from Americus, Georgia. “Just like flowers in a garden, students from different backgrounds, cultures and experiences can thrive and create something beautiful when united.

“Unity in Bloom symbolizes this growth, renewal and beauty of coming together as a community.”

To borrow dresses for free, visit Hawkins Hall Room 008 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or contact intlife@troy.edu.

“I hope people will get excited about it as much as we are,” said UAC’s President Clio Phan, a senior finance economics and environmental science major from Hanoi, Vietnam. “This is one of our last events with all of us coming together before some graduate, and it cannot be a more perfect event to do so.

“We are truly excited about how this event will turn out to be like.”
