Volleyball falls to Texas State

The Trojan volleyball team lost its 17th straight match over the weekend as it fell to the Texas State Bobcats 3-0.

 

The Trojans struggled from the start, losing the first set 25-17 and having a team attack percentage of .000 for the first set. The Bobcats led the set from start to finish; there were no tied scores or lead changes.

 

The second set ended in the same score, 25-17, but the Trojans did improve their attack percentage slightly, up to .114 and did lead once in the set. The Bobcats finished the sweep with a 25-19 win in the third set.

 

This is the ninth time in the season the Trojans have been shut out.

 

Troy was led by sophomore outside hitter Symone Shaw with 10 kills, while junior middle hitter Darby Griff led the team in attack percentage at .263.

 

Junior libero Ali Dowdall once again led the team in digs with 13 in the match and freshman setter Reina Terry had 27 assists.

 

The Trojans only managed to get two blocks as a team while the Bobcats had 11 blocks. The Trojans committed 24 attack errors, which led to the low attack percentage of .083 for the match.

 

While the Trojans have been eliminated from postseason play, the team has two more games left to try and break the losing streak before the season is over.

 

Troy will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, on Friday, Nov. 21, to take on Georgia State. The Trojans lost 3-0 against the Panthers at Trojan Arena on Saturday, Oct. 25.

 

The final game of the 2014 season for the Trojans is Saturday, Nov. 22, against rival South Alabama in Mobile. The Trojans lost to the Jaguars at Trojan Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 8.a
