Senior Zay Williams wrapped up his career as a Troy Trojan with All-District 23 Second Team honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches this past week. Williams was a leader on the team and helped lead the Trojans to back-to-back 20-win seasons with double-digit conference wins.
Head Coach Scott Cross had nothing but praise for the forward.
“Zay Williams is very deserving to be named to the NABC All-District Second Team,” Head Coach Scott Cross said. “Zay has helped us in every possible way: offense, defense, rebounding, leadership, toughness, on the court, off the court, great teammate, extremely coachable, reliable, competitive, winner, etc.
“He has helped build the foundation of a successful program, and I am very thankful and honored to have had the opportunity to coach him here at Troy over the past four years.”
Williams started all 33 games played for Troy and finished with career highs in points (404), points per game (12.2), rebounds (235), assists (43), steals (36) and field goal percentage (.527).
The Trojan built a legacy at Troy: top-10 in points, field goals made, field goal percentage, free throws made, rebounding average, blocks and rebounds in Troy DI history. Williams finished one rebound shy of breaking Jordan Vernado’s rebound record. Adding on to the legacy, he finished with 1,209 points making him the 11th Trojan in history to break the 1,000-point ceiling.
