Troy Women in science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics will hold a mini golf tournament at Enterprise Miniature Golf on Saturday morning.
This tournament is an opportunity for people of all ages to participate in mini golf and dip their toes into STEM-related topics such as chemistry with the program’s ‘make-your-own slime’ table and tech-related discussion topics.
“I am looking forward to people bringing their friends and family for a fun time and hopefully inspiring some kids,” said the President of Troy Women in STEM Ahnayah Preston, a computer science major from Auburn, Alabama. “Women in STEM hope to see everyone there.”
Half of the proceeds will go toward the STEM Outreach Camp that is held in the summer for children in Pike County Schools, led by Danielle Hudson, a professor in the science department. The other half will benefit the Troy Women in STEM group for club funding.
“This is important for our club so we can spread awareness and make sure our youth know what STEM is and that they too can pursue a future in a stem field,” said Vice President of Troy Women in STEM Madi Webb, a senior biomedical science major from Enterprise, Alabama. “I am looking forward to seeing so many people from the community support and learn about STEM.”
The event will last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1304 East Park Ave., Enterprise, Alabama.
“This program overall is important because women in the STEM field aren’t represented, and sometimes women who are in the field or going into it forget that they aren’t alone,” said Ainsleigh Sternberg, a member of Troy Women in STEM who is a sophomore computer science major from Round Hill, Virginia. “I’m looking forward to meeting new people and becoming more connected with my fellow STEM majors.”
