Troy women’s basketball split a pair of road contents with a record breaking 105-58 win over Texas State before a 53-70 loss to Louisiana.

It was all Trojans in the win over Texas State as Troy set their highest margin of victory on the road in a 47-point defeat of the Bobcats. Junior Emani Jenkins once again led the way for the Trojans with a new career high of 22 points off 8-of-11 shooting.

“It’s a very special day here in Texas State after facing a lot of adversity,” said head coach Chanda Rigby to Troy Athletics. “Half of our team was grounded in Atlanta, and we had to adjust and leave early due to the weather.”

The Trojans almost didn’t make it to the game because of the recent winter storms around the southeast. Half of the team made it to San Marcos, Texas, on time with the other half stranded in Atlanta, not getting to San Marcos, Texas, until 1 a.m. the day of the game.

Troy adjusted well though, with Briana Peguero keeping her double-digit scoring streak alive, contributing 17 points. Fellow guard Ashley Baez also continued her with her own 11-point performance.

Senior Brianna Jackson also scored double digit points for the Trojans as she poured in 14 points with seven rebounds, just short of a double-double.

The Trojans led from start to finish, which was helped by starting the game on a seven-point run. After the Bobcats got within two points of Troy with a 12-10 Trojans lead, Troy turned on the gas and went on a 20-0 run over the first and second quarters.

Texas State got some points in the back half of the first half with the Trojans still outscoring the Bobcats 25-14 in the second quarter. Coming out of the half, Troy held a 58-24 advantage before continuing the onslaught.

In the third quarter Troy held the Bobcats to only one field goal while scoring 30 of their own points to take an 82-35 lead going into the final quarter. Troy would grab its biggest lead of the game early in the fourth quarter with a 49-point lead.

The Trojans let off the gas a bit in the fourth quarter but kept the lead around the high 40s mark, eventually winning by 47 points over the Bobcats.

It was almost the exact opposite for Troy in Saturday’s game at Louisiana as the Trojans couldn’t get much offense going in the 53-70 loss.

It was a return to the top of the box score for junior Zay Dyer as she finished with her 11 double-double of the season off 11 points and 19 rebounds. 10 of those rebounds came on the offensive end, which made her the first Trojan in almost a year to record double-digit offensive rebounds.

The last Trojan to do so was recent graduate Tai’Sheka Porchia, when she had 11 offensive boards against ULM on Feb. 1, 2024.

Fellow big Jackson led the Trojans in scoring with her 13 points while Peguero kept her double-digit scoring streak alive with 10 points of her own.

The Ragin’ Cajuns forced 13 Troy turnovers in the first half alone. After scoring nine points in both the first and second quarters, the Trojans went into halftime down 18-31, their lowest scoring half of the season.

Troy found a little momentum out of halftime, getting the lead down to as little as 10 points before the Cajuns outscored Troy 16-6 to take a 20-point lead going into the final quarter.

The fourth and final quarter was the best one for the Trojans as they scored 21 points in the quarter, started by a 12-2 run to get the lead back down to 10. That was as close as Troy could get, though, as Louisiana pushed the lead back out 15.

From there the Cajuns controlled the game the rest of the way, eventually winning by 17.

The Trojans continue their road trip with a trip to Arkansas State on Thursday at 7 p.m.

before a visit to Southern Miss on Saturday at 1 p.m. Both games will be live on ESPN+.

Troy women’s basketball next returns home on Wednesday, Feb. 5 when they play host to Old Dominion at 6 p.m.
