The Troy’s women’s golf team opened their season at Clemson’s Tiger Classic earlier this week.
Troy placed 10th out of the field and narrowly bested Sun Belt Conference rival Appalachian State.
Junior Laura Fangmeyer led the Trojans by carding three birdies in her strong second round to secure a tie for 22nd place individually.
Fangmeyer will look to continue to build on her strong sophomore season, which included three top 10 finishes and eight top 25 finishes. This outing marked her 16th career top 25 finish, tied for the active team best with Alyssa Mercado.
Senior Brinson Hall turned in her best tournament result so far as a Trojan by shooting five over to finish tied for 31st place. Hall has seen limited match time throughout her Troy career with this appearance being just her eighth so far.
Junior Katelynn Altese shot identical rounds of 78 as she claimed 67th place overall.
Sophomore Manya Saini’s rounds of 79 and 81 placed her 85th while junior Jillian Friya bounced back in the second round by collecting a 76 to secure a respectable opening with room for improvement in her season opener.
Georgia Southern’s excellent showing earned them their first win of the season with a 13-stroke lead over second-place Campbell and an 18-stroke lead over host school Clemson.
Troy will look to climb up the leaderboard at their next outing at Tulane’s Green Wave Classic on Sept. 9.
