Women’s golf finishes strong, gets ninth at 3M Augusta

Troy’s women’s golf team ascended the leaderboard during Saturday’s final two rounds of the 3M Augusta Invitational, earning them ninth out of 16 teams at the event.

The strong finish was also enough to earn the Trojans ninth place among 11 teams ranked in the top 100 in the nation. Sunday’s threat of rain forced 36 holes to be played on Saturday.

Junior Fatima Fernandez Cano of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, tied for 15th place overall with a 4-over 220 finish for the tournament. The Spaniard shot 2-under 70 in Sunday’s opener, but shot a 3-over 75 in the subsequent round.

Paarl, South Africa native freshman Bianca Lohbauer finished tied in 40th with another Trojan, Gabi Oubre’ of Mobile, Alabama. The two shot a 142 over the two Saturday rounds.

Lohbauer shot a 76 in the trio of rounds at the Augusta Invitational, while Oubre’ shot a 75 and 77 on Saturday.

Junior Becca Horner of Woodham, England, finished her final two rounds for the Trojans with a 5-over 77 and a 3-over 75. Horner’s performance was enough to earn her a tie for 56th place overall.

Lindsey Harrison, a freshman from Panama City Beach, Florida, notched her first collegiate round under par with a 1-under 71 in the closing round. Harrison tied for a 61st place finish.

Redshirt senior Kalyn Hudson of Gulf Shores, and Bria Jansen of Cochrane, Alberta, competed as individuals. The duo finished 61st and 86th respectively.

On the leaderboard, the Trojans eclipsed Virginia Tech by one stroke and finished just five from Texas A&M, who ranks 21st in the nation. The host Augusta won by 10 shots over Coastal Carolina.

The Trojans return to competition March 28-30 at the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate hosted by Kennesaw State.
