Women’s golf gets third place at Lady Panther Intercollegiate

The women’s golf team earned third place after wrapping up things at the Eagle’s Landing Country Club in the Lady Panther Intercollegiate. The Trojans were in second after the first day and slipped one spot and finished up the tournament on Tuesday, April 1.

Troy shot 34 ahead of UALR and had 51 shots ahead of league rival South Alabama.

Junior Brooke Spinks had a great tournament, shooting a career best of 69 on Monday, March 31, which moved her into sixth place at the start of Tuesday. She shot a 78 on Tuesday and tied for 12th place.

Freshmen Fátima Fernández Cano continued her great season with matching rounds of 74 and a final round of 76 to tie with Spinks for 12th place.

As a team on Monday the Trojans were two shots over from tying the school’s Division I record score of 287, which this team shot in last September. The Trojans only trailed host Georgia State and Campbell.

The women will get a short break after this tournament as they travel to Athens, Ga. to compete in the Liz Murphy Collegiate Classic.
