The Troy University women’s tennis team traveled to play the Florida State Seminoles on Friday, April 15 in Tallahassee, Florida, losing 4-2 in its final regular season match.
The day for the Trojans started off well as they won the doubles point in two matches. Freshman Hannah Seizer and sophomore Jiayuan Xue won line one doubles by the score of 6-4 against sophomore Gabriella Castaneda and senior Yukako Noi.
Line two doubles was turned around as redshirt senior Daneika Borthwick and junior Daniela Schippers of Florida State won 6-2 against sophomores Nancy Karaky and Sanae Ohta. Freshmen Luisa Ferrauti and Tereza Melicharkova won off of a forfeit for line three as Florida State did not have players to play that line.
The singles matches did not go as well as the doubles. The first match was easy for Florida State as No. 31 Borthwick defeated Xue with a score of 6-2, 6-1.
Line two singles went better than line one, but still came up short. Ohta was defeated by Noi 6-2, 6-4, and Florida State’s Castaneda did about as well as everyone else as she defeated Seizer 6-1, 6-3.
Line five singles was never close, as junior Alicia Rodriguez was taken down by freshman Ariana Rahmanparast by a final score of 6-0, 6-1. Line six singles was the only bright spot, as Ferrauti took two sets 6-0, 6-1 against sophomore Kathryn Phillips.
Line four singles went unfinished, but appeared as if it might fare like the other singles matches.
With the regular season complete, the Trojans now look forward to the Sun Belt Conference Championships from Thursday, April 21 to Sunday, April 24 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
