The Troy women’s tennis team served and received its first shutouts of the season this past weekend in their pair of matches in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Troy dominated the University of New Orleans 4-0 to begin the weekend, dropping only one set as they cruised to their first shutout victory of the season.
The Trojan doubles pairings took care of business early with a 6-2 win on court one and a 6-4 victory on court three to seize the doubles point.
Valeriia Avdeeva continued in her winning ways with a confident 6-2, 6-1 win in the fourth singles spot for her fifth victory already on the young season.
Fellow junior and doubles partner Maria Guirguis wrapped up her match 6-4, 6-3 on court two to put the Trojans up 3-0.
Sophomore Emilia Namyslo clinched the match for Troy with her 6-2, 7-5 performance on court six.
The win marked not only the first clinching victory of her collegiate career, but also her first singles victory in spring season play.
The remaining matches went unfinished with the Trojans leading in all but one.
Next, Troy squared off against Tulane, a squad that has seen early success against Sun Belt Conference opponents.
The Trojans were dealt their first shutout loss of the season 4-0 as they were unable to secure a line against the Green Wave.
Tulane jumped out to the early lead thanks to 6-2 and 6-3 doubles wins on courts three and one respectively.
Tulane quickly dispatched three lines of singles in straight-set fashion to blank the Trojans in their third shutout showing in their first seven matches.
Avdeeva was just one game short of clinching a victory when the match was called as she led 6-0, 5-4 against her line four opponent.
Leena Metwally was knotted up with her opponent 6-2, 3-6 and preparing for a third set when play was stopped.
Troy will take a short break before heading to Birmingham, Alabama, on Feb. 28 to take on Samford in hopes of improving their shaky 2-3 road record.
The Trojans went 4-1 in singles against the Bulldogs in the Samford Fall Invitational this past October.
