The Troy women’s tennis team trekked to South Carolina to square off against Sun Belt Conference foe Coastal Carolina this past Friday.

The 2-3 Trojans found themselves down 2-0 early as the Chanticleers secured the doubles point and a swift victory in singles.

Junior Maria Guirguis put Troy on the board with her convincing 6-0, 6-3 win on court two.

Veena Nazar evened things up at 2-2 with an identical 6-0, 6-3 win on court six.

The freshman Nazar now possesses a 3-1 record in singles in the sixth singles spot and has won her last three matches on court six.

Valeriia Avdeeva edged past her opponent in 7-5, 6-4 fashion to deliver Troy a 3-2 lead.

The match victory was Avdeeva’s 12th consecutive win and improves her season singles record to a stunning 13-1.

Leena Metwally stormed back after dropping the first set in a tiebreaker to clinch the match for the Trojans with her gritty three-set 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-4 final.

Metwally has now won three consecutive matches and is 6-3 over Troy’s last 10 matches.

The contest was concluded 4-2 with Hagar Ramadan-Amin’s match going unfinished after split sets.

Troy was also scheduled to take on Georgia Southern in another road match, but inclement weather caused both teams to agree to postpone and reschedule for a yet to be determined date.

Troy will look to improve its middle of the pack 3-3 conference record as it plays host to 4-3 Arkansas State on Apr. 5 and the 0-7 University of Louisiana Monroe on Apr. 6.

The Trojans only have four matches to get into peak form before the Sun Belt Conference tournament in Rome, Georgia, at the end of April.
