Women’s tennis wraps up play in T-Town

Sophomore Hannah Seizer led the Troy women’s tennis team in Tuscaloosa this weekend, winning her team’s only singles draw in the Roberta Alison Fall Classic hosted by Alabama.

The Trojans struggled in singles play, with the exception of Seizer, while the doubles teams came much closer to victories in their brackets.

Seizer advanced to the finals of her bracket after defeating West Alabama’s Andrea Tomassone in three sets. After that match, Seizer completed her undefeated singles run with a pair of 6-4 wins over Chattanooga’s Sydney Patton.

Sophomore Luisa Ferrauti followed up Seizer’s performance with a solid showing of her own, defeating Mercer’s Haley Powell 6-2, 6-2. Ferrauti then faced Samford’s Elsa Pool but was defeated in the semifinal match in three sets.

In consolation play, junior Efriliya Herlina came up just short of a draw victory, as she fell to Alabama’s Juliana Valero.

Junior Sanae Ohta won her first match of the tournament on Friday, but failed to advance further after losing 6-2, 6-2, to Tea Jandric of Ole Miss. Fellow junior Nancy Karaky defeated DePaul’s Florence Abboh on Friday, but lost to Brooke Stevens of Ole Miss in two sets.

In doubles play, Troy’s Karaky/Rodriguez duo advanced to the finals of their bracket, but fell to Tulane’s Kurtz/Atkinson 8-6. Also making a finals appearance was Seizer/Ferrauti, who advanced to the finals on a walkover before losing to another Tulane pair in Klier/Sisti.

Ohta and Herlina finished the lowest of the Trojans in the doubles field, losing all three of their sets.

The women’s team will return to action this Friday when they travel to Jacksonville to take on North Florida in a three-day tournament. After that road contest, the Trojans will have an extended break before their next match in January.
