Troy’s women’s golf team wins the Sun Belt Conference Championship

Gabe Sadetsky Staff Writer   The Troy women’s golf team won the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Championship, the first in the school’s Division I history, last Wednesday, April 16, at the Steelwood Country Club in Loxley. The victory has given the Trojans an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, which begins May 8, and will take place in one of three regional locations. Trojan golf teams continue to impress

Wally Pendergrass Staff Writer    Both the men’s and women’s golf teams continued their great start in 2014 over the break. The women finished tied for eighth at the 3M Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate in Augusta, Ga., while the men finished tied for fifth at the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Fla. Both teams had to play 36 holes on Saturday, March 15, as inclement weather forced officials at both tournaments to push the final round of both events up a day. The men finished fifth after a solid final day and the women finished tied for sixth with fellow conference opponent Arkansas State. The men finished ahead of four nationally ranked teams: No. 27 Liberty, No. 47 Tennessee, No. 51 North Florida and No. 54 Louisville. The Trojan men traveled to Daufuskie Island, S.C. to take part in the Rees Jones Intercollegiate that ran from Sunday to Tuesday while the women’s team headed to Monroe, La. to play in the Fred Marx Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
