The department of English is holding its first Troy University Student Research Conference.
Ben Robertson, professor of English, decided to create this event in order to promote scholarly writing by students across all of the campuses and give them valuable experience presenting their own work to the public.
Participants can submit their work from any field of study — English, biology, history, languages, nursing, education, business, journalism or chemistry.
Robertson said that all students are invited to participate.
“Any student is welcome to apply, including first-year students all the way through graduate students,“ he said.
Robertson said that this event will focus primarily on paper presentations.
“The entire event will be paper presentations (for this first year), though if interest is high enough, we may also add a plenary speaker,“ he said.
Each participant will have 15 minutes to present his/her research paper, which should be no longer than eight double-spaced pages in Times New Roman, 12-point font. The deadline for the submission is March 16.
Robertson said that the conference is not just for those from Troy’s main campus.
“Students from other Troy campuses are also welcome to apply, such as eTroy students,” Robertson said. “For those who cannot physically make it to the Troy campus, we’re planning on having the option of streaming video or pre-recorded video for their presentations.”
To participate in the conference, send your name, classification, home campus, major, field of study for your project, title of paper being presented and summary of the paper (250 words maximum) to Ben Robertson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The conference will be held on April 3-4.
