The Trojan volleyball team traveled up the road to Alabama State University to play a mid-week game. The team closed out their non-conference action with a three set victory over the Hornets.

The opening set was a hard-fought, close win for the Trojans. The teams took each other point for point, not being able to string along any runs until midway through the set when Troy went on a six point run taking a 22-15 advantage. The Hornets would be able to gain a couple points, but not be able to come back from the seven point deficit. Troy took the first set 25-20.

Troy came out on fire in the second set racking up a quick 17-4 lead. With a series of four, five, and a six point streaks, Troy toppled the Hornets 25-9.

After an easy second set, the Hornets proved they still had some fire left in them. ASU jumped out with a nine to three lead after multiple attack and service errors committed by Troy. The Trojans fought hard to tie set at twelve and would go on to take the set 25-20.

Cheyenne Hayes posted another double-digit kill match after a strong 14 kill performance against the Hornets. Hayes has recorded double-digit kills in 11 straight matches. Freshman setter, Amara Anderson, lead the team with 33 assists. Her freshman counterpart and libero, Lacey Jeffcoat, a three-set, career high 19 digs. She is now tied for the fourth most in three sets by any player in the Sun Belt this season.

This weekend, Troy will travel to Arkansas to take on Arkansas State and Little Rock for their first conference games of the season.
