Troy women’s tennis drops match to South Florida

Troy women’s tennis team traveled to Tampa, Florida on Thursday, March 10, where they lost to South Florida 4-0.

Sophomore Jiayuan Xue lost to sophomore Jessica Cortes Chaves in line one singles 6-0, 6-3. Sophomore Efriliya Herlina went down in line four singles to freshman Vanja Klaric, 6-0, 6-1.

Freshman Luisa Ferrauti went down 6-1, 6-0 to South Florida’s sophomore Julian Cardoso in line six singles, and sophomores Nancy Karaky and Sanae Ohta, and freshman Hannah Seizer’s singles matches went unfinished.

Herlina and Xue lost their doubles match 6-3 against the team of juniors Vera Bessonova and Olga Martinez. Freshman Tereza Melicharkova and Ferrauti lost 6-4 to the team of Cardoso and Chaves.

Ohta and Karaky’s doubles match went unfinished.

The women’s next stop was in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, to play Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday, March 15.

The women did not get off to a good start. Xue lost line one singles 6-4, 6-0 to sophomore Laura Argente Escamilla.

Troy picked it up on line four singles, as Herlina defeated freshman Margaux Lacroix 6-1, 6-2. Karaky kept the good energy going, winning her match in similar fashion, 6-1, 6-2, against junior Marina Marti Heranz.

Ferrauti won her line six singles 6-2, 6-1 over sophomore Raquel Montalvo Perez. Seizer and Ohta’s singles matches went unfinished.

Herlina and Xue won their doubles match against Lacroix and freshman Viktorija Demcenkova 6-1. Karaky and Ohta followed suit, as they defeated Heranz and freshman Corentine Bodin 6-1.

Seizer and junior Alicia Rodriguez’s doubles match was unfinished.

The team will be at home for their next match against Appalachian State, which will take place on Thursday, March 24 at 2 p.m.
