Two members from Troy University’s women’s tennis team competed on Oct. 31-Nov.2, in the Roberta Alison Fall Invitational tournament in Tuscaloosa.
Junior Trang Huynh and freshman Sanae Ohta competed in both the singles and doubles draw in the tournament.
Ohta played in the singles Flight 5 quarterfinals where she played sophomore Natalia Maynetto from the University of Alabama. Ohta lost in a tight match 6-0, 7-6. Ohta played in the consolation round and won one against junior Kendal Woodard from Georgia Tech. She also lost in the consolation to senior Tiffany William from Middle Tennessee State University.
Huynh played in the singles Flight 5 quarterfinals against sophomore Erin Routliffe from the University of Alabama. Huynh lost in tight match as well, 7-5, 6-2. She played in the consolation round, and won one against junior Eleanor Grossman from Loyola Marymount University. She also lost a consolation match against senior Noel Scott from Louisiana State University.
In the first round of the doubles draw, Ohta and Huynh got a bye to advance. In the second round of the doubles draw, they played sophomore Rosalinda Calderon and senior Courtney Wild from Ball State University and lost the set 8-4, and then lost to a team from Mississippi State, 8-1.
The women’s tennis team has one last tournament in the fall season, and as well as the men’s tennis team. Both teams will play in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing, New York. The tournament will be he Nov. 6-9.
The teams will begin playing other schools, and recording a team score starting in January.
