Scott Shelton Staff Writer The Troy men’s tennis team found some success in a small field over the weekend in the Juan Varon Memorial Invitational, with only four Trojans playing. The Trojans faced small colleges and universities, mostly from Florida, in an eight-team invitational hosted by Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida. On day one of the tournament, Troy’s Ignacio Rodriguez defeated his opponent from Embry-Riddle University 6-3, 6-1. Scott Shelton Staff Writer The Troy men’s tennis team found some success in singles competition but struggled in the doubles phase at the ITA Men’s Southern Regional Championship hosted by Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Troy faced 14 schools from the states of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana in the five-day tournament. The event featured talent from 12 schools across the Southeast competing in both singles and doubles competitions. Troy entered the tournament as the fourth-seed and knocked off fifth-seed Coastal Carolina in shutout fashion in the first round before falling to one-seed Georgia State. Troy’s four seniors all participated in Senior Day, with three notching victories. The Trojans won five singles matches and then grabbed the doubles point with two match wins.
