Michael Shipma Sports Editor The Troy men’s basketball team advanced to the second day of the Sun Belt Conference Championship in New Orleans on Wednesday night thanks to  a 69-62 victory over 10th-seeded South Alabama. The Trojans were led by the usual suspects in Jordon Varnado and Wesley Person, who combined for 39 points to help secure the win. Men’s tennis team snaps losing streak with 3 straight wins

Michael Shipma Sports Editor Following a 2-6 start to the spring season, the men’s tennis team exploded for three straight wins, including two at the HEB College Classic hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Trojans got off to a rough start in their first match of the tournament, falling to the hosts 4-0 on Friday. Later in the afternoon, however, they bounced back to defeat the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley 4-1. Michael Shipma Sports Editor A slow first half kept the Troy men’s basketball team out of the win column with an 81-76 loss on Thursday at home against Louisiana, but it bounced back two days later to defeat Louisiana-Monroe 73-67 on a historic night for Wesley Person. The senior guard from Brantley poured in 17 points on Senior Night against the Warhawks on his way to 2,003 career points, making him the first Trojan to surpass 2,000 career points. Scott Watkins Staff Writer The Troy baseball team traveled to Tallahassee to take on the top-five ranked Florida State Seminoles last weekend, but were swept in the three-game series, dropping to 4-4 to start the season. The Trojans returned home for a Wednesday night game against UAB, but that game had not been completed by the time the Tropolitan went to press. Coverage of the game will be on tropnews.com.
