Scott McLendon Staff Writer The Trojan’s men’s and women’s cross country teams opened their seasons with a meet at Oxford Lake hosted by Jacksonville State University on Friday. The women’s 4k team placed seventh out of eight in the Red division with a total time of 1:19:32 and an average time of 15:54. Troy’s best finish came from senior Samantha Smith of Sonora, California, with a time of 15:04.80 that earned her 16th place. On Friday, Aug. 26, sophomore Brooke McKee of Madison was first on the score sheet as the Trojans (4-1, 0-0 Sun Belt) dominated the first half and took the lead in the 13th minute. Scott McLendon Staff Writer The Trojan soccer team split its first two regular season games of 2016, defeating Gardner-Webb 2-0 on Friday and losing to Samford by the same margin on Sunday. Troy (1-1, 0-0 Sun Belt) put the pressure on the Runnin’ Bulldogs (0-1-1, 0-0 Big South) early, tallying seven shots in the first half. Scott McLendon Staff Writer A penalty kick in the 90th minute gave Alabama the 2-1 edge over Troy soccer in an exhibition match at Orange Beach Sportsplex on Sunday, Aug. 14. After 61 minutes, the score was still tied at zero. The Crimson Tide’s Lacey Clarida then headed home a corner from Christina Martensson, breaking the deadlock. Scott McLendon Staff Writer The Trojan soccer team concluded spring play Saturday, Apr. 16, with losses to Kennesaw State and Mercer in Macon, Georgia. The Trojans ended with a 4-2-1 record, outscoring their opponents 11-5. “We’re really happy with how the spring went for us this year,” head coach Jason Hamilton said. “The spring is all about developing players and getting more experience on the field.  In that aspect it went really well.” This fall the Trojans will be adding 13 newcomers, 11 of which were signed on National Signing Day in…
