Troy men’s golf earns sixth place finish in Houston

Scott McLendon Staff Writer Troy men’s golf team claimed sixth place at the All-American Intercollegiate Tournament at the Houston Golf Club in Humble, Texas. From Feb. 19-21, Troy faced a field of teams that included Houston, South Carolina, Baylor, Louisiana Tech and the champion Arkansas. The Trojans finished with a team score of a 26-over 881. Junior Clayton Vannoy of Pensacola, Florida, led the pack with a 5-under 211 finish. He tied for third in the individual standings. Vannoy ended the tournament shooting two straight rounds of 70. Four days after a series of three closely scheduled games, this match gave the Trojans (9-18, 4-12 Sun Belt) a more slow-paced week in competition. Sinclair Portis Staff Writer The Trojan women’s basketball team bounced back from a tough loss at South Alabama by defeating Appalachian State 100-89 in Boone, North Carolina. Despite giving up a 22-point lead on Saturday, the Trojans (13-12, 8-8 Sun Belt) almost let the game slip away, but they regrouped in extra time to win. In overtime, Troy dominated offensively, outscoring the Mountaineers 15-4 and outrebounding them 12-3 on its way to its sixth 100-point game this season.
