Troy had lost five consecutive series heading into the series with the Mountaineers. The win moved the Trojans into eighth place in the Sun Belt, the last qualifying spot for the conference tournament. Michael Shipma Sports Editor After earning the top seed in Sun Belt Conference Championship match play on Monday, the Troy men’s golf team lost 1-4 in the semifinals to fourth-seeded Georgia State. The Trojans placed first out of 12 teams in the field after two rounds of competition over the weekend and had little time to rest due to a 7:30 a.m. start time for their match play with the Panthers. Troy (23-17, 9-9 Sun Belt) won the series opener 4-0 against the Bobcats before winning both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader, 4-3 and 6-3. The Trojans have now won six of the last seven after topping a ranked Tigers team for Troy’s highest ranked win in its Division I history.
