Women’s golf faces stiff competition, finished 13th

The Troy women’s golf team placed 13th out of 20 teams at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, South Carolina. It shot a collective 59-over 923, scoring 307-303-313 over the course of a competitive three rounds of play.

Senior Fátima Fernandez Cano led the Trojans, tying for 19th place with an 8-over 224 score. Cano shot a consistent 2-over 74 in the first two rounds of the tournament, but followed with a 4-over 76 performance in the third to wrap it up.

Following Cano’s performance was sophomore Bianca Lohbauer and senior Becca Horner, who shot 75-73-80 and 76-78-75, respectively. Lohbauer carded a 12-over 228 after three rounds, placing her in a tie for 40th place.

Horner tied for 44th with her 13-over 229. She shot her best round of the week in the third, putting up a 3-over 75 after nailing four straight birdies on her way to a total of 10 in the tournament.

Sophomore Lindsey Harrison and senior Gabi Oubre rounded out the lineup for the Trojans, placing in ties for 88th and 93rd. Harrison finished with an 85-78-82, while Oubre finished with a 82-79-86.

Troy will travel to Macon, Georgia to compete in the last tournament of the fall season—the Idle Hour Collegiate Championship hosted by Mercer. The two-day tournament is set to begin on Monday, Oct. 31.
