About 700 prospective students and their families will be visiting Troy’s campus this Saturday, Nov. 5, for the annual fall preview Trojan Day to learn about opportunities Troy offers.
The event will begin in the Trojan Arena and take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students will partake in a browse session allowing them to talk with and learn more about admissions, scholarships, housing and various campus organizations.
“I hope that those coming will see that Troy University is a college that genuinely cares about the students,” said Rebecca Mejia, a freshman financial economics major from Gulf Breeze, Florida.
Mejia attended Trojan Day prior to coming to Troy, and she said she was able to meet many people while on her visit.
“Trojan Day was a very fun experience where I was able to meet like-minded people; ones who wanted to go to a school that believed in a close-knit community,” Mejia said. “I enjoyed making long lasting relationships that focus on extracurricular activities as well as studies.”
Tiffani Stephens, director of enrollment services, helps coordinate the event and explained its purpose.
“(The purpose is) to share information about academics and student organizations with them (students), get them acclimated to campus through the campus tour and let them experience
an athletic event by attending the football game that night,” Stephens said.
Attendees will also be led on a campus tour by Trojan Ambassadors to see residence halls, academic facilities and student life.
“It’s all about the students, it’s all about the families,” said Sarah Singleterry, a junior broadcast journalism major from Alabaster and a Trojan Ambassador. “It’s all about making sure they leave with the full Trojan experience.”
Singleterry has previously participated in Trojan Day as an ambassador, and she said this is one of her favorite events of the year because of the energy and group atmosphere of the tour.
“It’s the day where I get to share with the most people how much I love Troy University,” Singleterry said.
After the tour, students and their families are invited to a tailgate lunch and to watch Troy play the University of Massachusetts at 2:30 p.m. at Veterans
Memorial Stadium.
“It’s a very busy day, and we pack a lot of information, but we try to put some fun into it with some football,” Stephens said. “They leave with the information they want and have a good time at the game, too.”
Mejia attended the football game played last year after the Trojan Day activities.
“The football game was an awesome experience because I was able to see the spirit of the Trojans,” Mejia said. “That made me want to come here and be a part of that.”
Prospective students are provided with a Troy student experience and perspective, and Singleterry said that “they are going to love it.”
