Senior music education major and Sound of the South member Chris Wallace, from Montgomery, was hit by another student’s car at the intersection of University Avenue and McKinley Drive around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, according to University police Chief John McCall.

“He was walking when a car hit him going about 35 mph,” said a witness, who asked not to be identified. “He landed on top of the car, where his elbow went through the windshield. He landed about 20 feet up from the crosswalk.”

Wallace is member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Phi Mu Alpha.

The accident occurred only minutes after the SOTS band practice ended, when the sky was just getting dark.

This is one of the crosswalks that does not have a stop sign.

Medical personnel treated him at the scene due to bleeding from road rash.

Another witness said Wallace seemed to be doing better after brief treatment in Troy Regional Medical Center.

He said Wallace suffered minor injuries, with a possible broken leg.

Bandmates expressed concern that the injuries may prevent Wallace from marching the rest of band season.

Edits have been made to this story to correct the location of the incident from John M. Long Boulevard to the intersection of University Avenue and McKinley Drive.
