The Troy men’s golf team traveled to Tallahassee over the weekend, bringing home a 10th-place finish from the two-day Seminole Intercollegiate.
The host, Florida State, took the top spot after Sunday’s final round of play, narrowly edging second-place Jacksonville after a 287-270-287 performance.
The Trojans carded a 299-298-299 performance, good enough to top four teams in the 14-team tournament. However, they fell 13 shots behind ninth-place West Virginia, which peaked at a tie for sixth after the second round.
Connor Futrell led the Trojans on every day of competition, opening play with one birdie in the opening round to land an even par of 72. The Tallahassee, Florida, native followed with a birdie in the second round later Saturday afternoon, but carded a 3-over 75 in the second round to keep him from climbing the competitive leaderboard.
The freshman wrapped up the weekend with another 3-over 75 performance to land him at a team high tie for 37th place.
Calum Masters and Dean Martin followed closely behind Futrell, coming in a tie for 46th place. Masters picked up four birdies in Sunday’s round to finish at an even par, tying Martin and Futrell for the lowest score by a Trojan on the weekend.
Martin carded his 72 after firing for a birdie in the second round. Masters and Martin finished with an 81-73-72 and 76-72-78, respectively, both totaling 226.
Fellow Trojan Ike Alexander carded a 76 and a 78 in the opening two rounds before going for a 3-over 75 in the third round to land him at a tie for 55th place. Alexander fired a pair of birdies in the final round to wrap up play with a 229 total.
Jake Tiffin rounded out the lineup for the Trojans by taking 67th place. Tiffin shot a 3-over 75 in the opening round, but followed with a 10-over 82 performance in the second round to fall in the standings. Three birdies helped him bounce back to a closing 5-over 77 performance in the third round, leaving his weekend total at 234.
The Trojans are back in action on Sunday when they take part in Auburn’s three-day Tiger Invitational.
