Rumors on the Square, a new restaurant coming to downtown Troy in the previous Milky Moo’s location, will be opening next week on Monday, April 9, at 10:30 a.m.

Marsha and Fred Olive, previous owners of Our Place Diner in Ozark, will be running the restaurant.

Marsha Olive said she and her husband sold Our Place Diner to another operator in 2016 and moved to Fayetteville, Tennessee, where they opened another Our Place Diner location.

“Well, all of our customers wanted us to come back,” Olive said.

The couple decided to move back to Alabama, where they soon began the process of opening Rumors on the Square.

“So, we signed a non-compete with the man who bought our restaurant in Ozark, meaning we could not open a restaurant in Dale County,” Olive said.

Olive said they looked at Troy to pioneer a restaurant since they could not open a restaurant in Ozark.

“So, we came up here and fell in love with the square,” she said.

They decided on the name Rumors on the Square for their new location.

“The name Rumors (on the Square) came because as soon as we got back into Ozark, the rumors started flying,” she said.

The restaurant will serve burgers, sandwiches, pasta and desserts, and Olive said it will have a “family environment.”

“We serve good home-cooked food; everything is handmade,” she said.

The restaurant is themed after a 1950s and 60s diner, and Olive said she wants it to be a hangout spot for the community of Troy.

Olive said that as business progresses, she plans on having a “Dinner with Elvis” show at the restaurant with a local Elvis impersonator performance.

Olive described the restaurant as “the good meeting place where you can get good food, and you can come in here and meet your friends.”

“That’s what we did down there (with Our Place Diner), and that’s what we want to do here,” she said.
