With seven films to choose from for Wednesday’s movie night, most students don’t want to waste this opportunity to watch a film for $2.
To make sure students pick the right film and get a bargain for their money, the Trop, Troy student body and general film critics have given some helpful recommendations to make sure students aren’t kicking themselves Wednesday night for picking a terrible film.

“The Meg”
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 51%
“It’s a fun time when the Megalodon, the title character, is on screen. For that 30 percent of the film, it is riveting, fast-paced and very tense. When it is not on the screen, however, the movie drags, as its weak characters do little to carry the plot, which is riddled with holes.” — Sam Stroud, a freshman history major from Daphne.
Final Call: Two dollars is almost a bust, but not quite.
“Christopher Robin”
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 70%
“Watching the movie was like taking a step back into my childhood. Everything from the way Winnie the Pooh talked to the opening screen montage of drawings that looked like they came straight from the book made me feel like a kid going with their parents to the movies to see their favorite silly old bear.” — Draven Jackson, a junior English major from Gadsden.
Final Call: A very nostalgic bargain.
“Mission Impossible: Fallout”
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 97%
“What it lacks in plot, ‘Mission Impossible: Fallout’ makes up for in action. The fast-paced thriller addresses some unresolved storylines as fan-favorite characters return: At an age where people are counting down the years to retirement, Tom Cruise continues to redefine fearless acting with his stunts, and the addition of Henry Cavill to the cast just raises the bar. A must watch for all action fans.” — Pradyot Sharma, a junior economics and mathematics major from Bengaluru, India
Final Call: Anytime you can watch Tom Cruise break his ankle on camera in a stunt for $2 is a bargain.

“The Darkest Minds”
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 17%
“If you could imagine a movie that was a cross between the Fantastic Four and Divergent (with a harder lean on Divergent), but with a really original twist, that would be this movie.” — Jeremy Johnson, a junior financial economics major from Benton Harbor, Michigan.
Final Call: If you are into that kind of sci-fi, dystopian genre, it’s a bargain.

“It was like any shark movie — cheesy lines, a lot of jump scares, et cetera. But if you can get past the impractical science and frustration at the people who keep falling in the water, it’s a fun film to go see.” — Mallory Wintz, a senior theater major from Jacksonville, Florida.

“It’s not getting any Oscars this year, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Kate McKinnon is the best part of it, and it’s a great movie to see with your girlfriends!” — Mallory Wintz
Final Call: Not an Oscar winner, but still a bargain.
Critical review
“Crazy Rich Asians”
Currently with a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has been received with critical acclaim. Many are saying this is the best rom-com to come out in several years.
Final Call: Two dollars is an obvious bargain.
“The Equalizer 2”
With a 49% on Rotten Tomatoes, critics do not seem to be thrilled. Denzel Washington, who stars in the film, is being hailed as the best part of the movie, but the praise ends there. Most reviews are claiming the film is filled with senseless violence constructed around a weak plot.
Final Call: Bust. If you want to see this movie, it’s cheaper just to go watch the first “Equalizer” on Hulu or whatever streaming service you have.
