Get lost in Alabama-shaped maze for just $1

Camp Butter and Egg and the Troy University Activities Council (UAC) have partnered to offer Troy students admission to the camp’s “Alabama Maze” and other events for just $1.

On weekends from now until the end of October, Troy students can access this deal by simply showing their student IDs at the gate.

“For that dollar admission price that the student pays, they can also either do the laser tag on one day or canoeing and paddle-boating on the other day,” said Ron Pierce, the owner of Camp Butter and Egg. “So they can do a couple things while they’re there, all for a dollar — it’s not a bad deal!”

The Alabama Maze is not named because of its location, Pierce explained, but because of its shape. The maze is made of Sudan grass grown in the shape of the state and features 13 “cities.” Those who venture into the maze will face trivia questions about the cities; correct answers lead toward the exit, but wrong answers lead away.

De’Korrius Johnson, the president of UAC and a senior global business major from Birmingham, said the partnership was the camp’s idea.

“We’ve been wanting to do something like this with the UAC for quite a while,” Pierce said. “Since we’re going to be open anyway on those days, that’s why we thought we’d open it up from now until the end of October.”

Johnson urged students to participate in this and other UAC events.

“I would definitely say get out there and do it,” Johnson said. “I know it’s plenty of times on the weekends where I have nothing to do. Of course, we’re in college so we don’t have as much money, so paying a dollar is amazing.”

According to Pierce, the first frost will kill the Sudan grass, but plenty of activities will happen in the maze before then. Flashlight Nights offer the chance to complete the maze in the dark, and Zombie Hunts will be held toward the end of October.
