Students will get the chance to meet potential employers and find career and internship opportunities at some upcoming events organized by Troy University Career Services.
“The goal is to assist our students to find a career they love,” said Lauren Cole, the coordinator of career services at Troy University.
The first event is a technology fair on Feb. 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. The fair will have an emphasis on careers in the technology sector and is an opportunity for students with majors like computer science, mathematics or similar majors to meet potential employers.
The next event is an education fair on Feb. 27 from 10 p.m. to noon. This fair is for senior education majors who currently hold internships. According to Cole, “it’s a pretty niche fair” that focuses on that specific group.
Though these two events are specific to majors, the next event applies to all students. The next Career Closet event will be held on March 20.
The Career Closet is an event where students can take and keep up to three items of gently used professional attire, such as suits, dresses or shoes.
Next on the schedule is the JC Penny Suit Up Event on March 31. From 5 to 8 p.m., all Troy students will receive a 40 percent discount on business attire.
“I think the suit up event is a really cool opportunity for students to be able to jumpstart their professional wardrobe,” said Ali Chastang, a senior communication major from Bay Minette, Alabama, and a career services employee.
Students who wish to attend need to RSVP through the university’s Handshake web portal. A link can be found by going to my.troy.edu and following the link for career services. Students can log in to Handshake using their regular Troy login information.
The next scheduled event is a business fair on April 2. This fair will provide possible internship and employment opportunities to students with majors, such as marketing, insurance and other similar majors.
On the same day, there will be a student athlete networking mixer. The mixer will be similar to a career fair but will focus on students who are also involved with sports.
The final scheduled event is an all-majors career fair on April 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Trojan Center Ballrooms. The fair will include representatives from a variety of fields to talk with any interested students.
Kelsie Thomas, a graduate student studying strategic communication, said students should attend as many of these events as they can.
“I would take advantage of Career Services as soon as possible,” she said. “That way you’re not in a rush when you graduate.”
