The Troy Softball team just concluded a tough weekend in Louisiana where it fell to No. 8 LSU before dropping all three games in the series to No. 10 Louisiana.

LSU scored 11 runs from nine hits to power past Troy in a midweek nonconference matchup Wednesday night at Tiger Park.

LSU struck first in the bottom of the first inning, scoring two runs off a double by Amanda Sanchez and a single by Shemiah Sanchez.

The Tigers offense kept rolling in the bottom of the second inning. Hits by Savannah Stewart and Elyse Thornhill following four walks and a hit by pitch scored six runs to solidify LSU’s victory.

LSU’s scoring was capped off in the bottom of the third inning with three runs scored off four hits including doubles by Amanda Sanchez and Amanda Doyle.

Troy threatened with runners on in the first three innings of play but were not able to capitalize with Troy’s lone hit coming from Stephanie Snyder in the first inning.

That weekend, the Trojans traveled down to Lafayette to take on No. 10 Louisiana.

A pair of two-run homers powered Louisiana past Troy in the series opener Friday night at Yvette Girouard Field. A two-run home run by Julie Rawls gave the Ragin’ Cajuns a three-run advantage, but Troy (18-10) answered in the top of the fourth with a run.

Madeline Porter hit a double to left-center to score Taylor Corbett who got on with an infield single to put Troy on the board.

A five-run inning capped off by a two-run home run by Raina O’Neal gave Louisiana a seven-run advantage going into the bottom of the sixth.

A walk-off two-run home run by Julie Rawls powered Louisiana past Troy in the series-clinching Saturday afternoon game, and in similar fashion on Sunday, a walk-off two-run home run by Bailey Curry gave Louisiana the series sweep.

Troy now heads back home for a Tuesday afternoon game against Georgia Tech. The Trojans will square off against the Yellow Jackets at 5 p.m.
