Troy students recently had the chance to “Paint the Quad,” thanks to the staff of Troy’s literary journal, The Rubicon. Students were able to paint a section of canvas as part of a collaborative piece to be featured on the cover of Troy University’s annual journal.
“The main goal of this event was to spread awareness of the Rubicon across campus,” said Brittany Wyatt, treasurer of The Rubicon and a sophomore English major from Enterprise, Alabama. “I was ecstatic to see how many people participated.”
The Rubicon is Troy University’s literary journal that is made for students, by students. The group publishes writing, photography and artwork of all kinds that demonstrate campus life throughout the year at Troy.
On Thursday, students were able to donate $1 and in return were given the chance to paint a section of canvas that will be featured on the back cover of the 2022-2023 edition of the Rubicon.
“We have not held events like this in the last few years, but we plan on holding this event in years to come due to how great this turned out,” said Taye Bass, a senior theatre major from Dothan, Alabama, and the public relations manager for the Rubicon.
Wyatt said she hopes that holding events like these will encourage students to read the Rubicon in the fall and bring light to the organization.
“I loved seeing how different people interpreted their parts in the collaborative painting, regardless of their artistic experience,” said Icie Wallace, a freshman graphic design major from Sylacauga, Alabama.For more information about the Rubicon at Troy University, follow them on their social media pages @thetroyurubicon.
