Tropolitan Player of the Week

by Dylan Seymore

This weekend the Trojan baseball team hosted the USC-Upstate Spartans. The Trojans completed the weekend sweep over the Spartans winning 5-2, 15-9, and 10-0. Every Trojan in the starting lineup recorded a hit against the Spartans, the first time since March 9, 2022, against Jacksonville.

Shane Lewis was a major contributor this weekend. Lewis finished Sunday’s match up with two hits and four total RBI’s. He finished the weekend with .615 batting average, three home runs and 13 RBI’s and five runs scored. Lewis is one of two players in the Sun Belt conference to have a slugging percentage above 1.000 this season. With this performance, he was named Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week. The Left fielder is one of 13 trojans to ever receive this honor.

“We are happy for Shane [Lewis] to be recognized as a national player of the week,” said head coach Skylar Meade. “We know that if he continues to maintain the same focus success will follow.”

The red shirt sophomore has already tied last years leader in home runs with eight on the season in just 11 games. The Vicksburg Mississippi native leads the Sun Belt in RBI’s (26) and is second in home runs (8).

You can catch our National Player of the week on the field this Tuesday at home against Florida Gulf Coast Eagles. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
