Relax with slow yoga at the Rec

Trojan Outreach collaborated with the Trojan Fitness and Wellness Center to bring the students of Troy a free stress-relief yoga class this past Wednesday.

During yoga classes, various exercises are performed to encourage a mental and physical relaxing environment.

“I was inspired to join this yoga class last year,” said Erie Goss, a junior biomedical science from Fort Mitchell, Alabama. “I would often walk by the class and admire the peace everyone was at.

“After a few weeks in the class, I genuinely believed I found that same peace everyone else in the classroom had.”

The class was designed with the intention to relieve stress as finals are coming up, although the class itself is designed around releasing tension points in the body. During the class, a special meditation routine is performed called “the progressive muscle relaxation.” This routine individually relaxes every muscle from the toes up.

Macy Saulas, a junior interdisciplinary studies major from Gadsden, Alabama, was one of the students in attendance. She credits yoga for more than just its fitness potential.

“Yoga is the best way for people to remain active, strengthen their body, strengthen their mobility, balance, and flexibility while also strengthening their mind at the same time,” Saulas said.
