Student makes smiles with stickers

Stickers are a way to personalize almost anything. Lately, Troy University students who have looked close enough have found several stickers around campus. These stickers can be credited to an anonymous student, known as the Sticker Lord, who states that they only want to bring a little joy in people’s lives.

“I woke up at four in the morning and I just thought to myself, ‘I have too many stickers,’” said Sticker Lord, who prefers to keep their identity anonymous. “Then later that day, I was like, why don’t I make a little alter ego? And I just made it then and there.”

This alter ego came in the form of an Instagram account, @thesticker.lord ,where they could advertise the types of stickers they sell. However, they did not stop with just a social media account.

“I couldn’t figure out a way to get it out there more, so I made some posters, and I offered up some free stickers,” the Sticker Lord said. “Most people just take the sticker and go, which I would probably do the same thing, so then I started hiding them. I wrote @thesticker.lord on the back and people started tagging me.”

This led to the growth of Sticker Lord’s Instagram following. Now, they hide their stickers at least two Fridays a month. For those who cannot find a free sticker, Sticker Lord makes sure everyone is able to afford one.

“I’m a very cheap person,” the Sticker Lord said. “I don’t like to spend a lot of money on stuff because, who does? So, I decided I would make it affordable.

“It’s not like it’s going to be my main source of money, just maybe gas money.”

Sticker prices range from ten to seventy-five cents, depending on the size and quality of the sticker. On occasion, Sticker Lord will also sell stickers in person around campus. While the money is a perk, it is not Sticker Lord’s main reason for selling stickers.

“When I’m on YikYak, and everyone’s having a bad day, I’m like, ‘do you want to come get a sticker?’ and they’re like, ‘yeah.’ And they get a little sticker,” Sticker Lord said. “It’s just something that doesn’t suck when everything else does.”

While Troy students are the main customers Sticker Lord sees, they are also reaching outside of Troy campus.

“I’m trying to reach different people,” Sticker Lord said. “Even the high schoolers will buy stickers from me and people from churches because I sell religious stickers, too.”

Sticker Lord can be found on Instagram @thesticker.lord. They will announce the in-person sales on their account.

“People love stickers. It’s really fun and people seems to really enjoy it.”
