The Troy women’s golf team earned its second team title of the season on Tuesday, March 22, placing first out of 10 teams at the Samford Collegiate.

Fatima Cano led the Trojans at the two-day event, which was held at the Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, with a school-record 8-under-par performance. The junior’s performance was enough to win first place individually, her third first-place finish in just six tournament appearances this season.

Currently, Cano ranks 13th nationally in stroke average, at 71.76.

After recording two 4-under 68 performances in the opening rounds of play, Cano finished the final round of play on Tuesday at an even par. Additionally, Cano broke her own overall card record with a 208 performance in the tournament.

She set her previous record in the tournament, a 6-under 210, twice.

Cano’s performance was supported by junior Gabri Oubre’, who posted a 1-under 71 performance on the final day. This solidified her sole ownership of third place at the end of the tournament, thanks to an overall card of 2-over 218.

Oubre’ was followed on the leaderboards by Trojan freshmen Bianca Lohbauer, Anotnia Poate and Lindsey Harrison, who finished fourth, 14th and 19th overall, respectively.

Lohbauer had her best performance of her season, earning a 3-over 219 finish thanks to a 4-over 76 in the final round. Poate finished with an even par in the final round, while Harrison recorded a 2-over 72 performance.

Rounding out the Trojans’ lineup in the rankings was junior Becca Horner in 28th, senior Kalyn Hudson tied for 31st, freshman Bri Jansen tied for 41st and freshman Abby Parks tied for 50th.

The Trojan women’s golf team will return to action on Monday, March 28, when it participates in the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate, hosted by Kennesaw State. The two-day event will be played in Kennesaw, Georgia.
