The Troy women’s basketball team looked dominant in Trojan Arena during its exhibition on Thursday, Nov. 6, against Alabama-Huntsville, winning 92-56.
Troy had a slow start and was actually behind UAH 9-8 at the first media timeout.
The Trojans had a small lead, 14-12, at the second media timeout in the first half.
Troy then put it together and built up a 14-point lead, going into halftime up 44-30.
Junior guard Rachel Reid led the Trojans at the half with 13 points, and senior forward Ronita Garrett led the team with five rebounds.
The Trojans had only seven turnovers while forcing the Lady Chargers to turn the ball over 16 times in the first half.
Troy slowly added to its lead throughout the second half and took complete control of the game.
The Trojans had a 32-point lead with 7:36 left in the second half. The Trojans would add a few more points to that lead and won by 36 points, 92-56.
“We did a lot of things well,” head coach Chanda Rigby said. “We also did some things that looked like it was our first game.”
Reid led the team with 26 points and also had four assists. Garrett led the team in rebounds with nine while also adding four assists.
“It was fantastic to see our newcomer Rachel Reid have a breakout game in her first game here,” Rigby said.
The Trojans forced 37 turnovers and had only 12 turnovers as a team. The Trojans also won the rebound battle, 37-35.
Troy shot 46.6 percent on the game and shot 74.1 percent from the free throw line.
“I did not expect it (the 26 points),” Reid said. “I was nervous at first but I tried to not let that get the best of me. I try to come out and contribute the best way I can and tonight was a good night for me.”
The Trojans officially open up the season on Friday, Nov. 14, against the Auburn Tigers in Auburn and then travels to Clemson, South Carolina on Sunday, Nov. 16, to take on the Clemson Tigers.
The Trojans’ first official home game is at noon on Friday, Nov. 21, against Southeastern Louisiana.
