The Troy University track and field team participated in the Florida Relays hosted by Florida University in Gainesville, Florida, from March 31 to April 2.
The Trojans’ throwers once again were the leaders for Troy in the event, which featured nationally-ranked men and women’s teams from the SEC, ACC and Big Ten. The throwers’ success was due in large part to junior Zach Douglas, who snagged first place in the men’s shot put competition with a personal-best 17.94-meter toss.
In the women’s shot-put competition, the Trojans were led by freshman Indiya Summerville, who recorded a toss of 13.35 meters to earn 14th place. Sophomore Helga Volgyi supported the women’s throwers with a 15th-place finish of her own, on a 54.46-meter hammer toss.
Additionally, sophomore Jaevyn Worthham finished in fourth place with a discus throw of 51.62 meters.
For the men’s and women’s track teams, the women earned seventh in the 4×200 relays with a time of 1:36.93 to beat out teams like Missouri, Iowa and Michigan State. The men, who finished 21st in the 4×100 relays, struggled in the 800-meter run.
Freshman Tyson Robinson represented the Trojans in 48th place with a time of 1:53.10.
In the men’s long jump competition, senior Myles Charley tied Thomas Pitt from Penn and Michael Wamer from South Carolina for 10th place with a 7.04-meter jump.
The Troy track and field team will return to action at the Tiger Classic in Auburn on April 8-9.
