Troy to receive vaccine as early as next week, ADPH investigates Auburn

By Sarah Mountain and Brady Talbert Troy University will begin receiving doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as early as next week, according to an email sent to Troy faculty and staff Thursday afternoon. Dean of Student Services Herb Reeves said the university does not yet know how many doses it will receive, but the campus health center will be ready to begin distribution within 24 hours of receiving the vaccine. Medal of Honor recipient Bennie Adkins dies from COVID-19

Troy University alumnus and Medal of Honor recipient Sergeant Major Bennie Adkins died from COVID-19 related respiratory failure. He was 86. The Bennie Adkins foundation announced on March 26 that Adkins had been hospitalized after he became critically ill with COVID-19 respiratory failure. A Vietnam War veteran, Adkins was a native of Opelika, Alabama earned his Bachelor’s degree from then-Troy State University, Montgomery in  1979 and subsequently earned two Master’s degrees from Troy. Zach Henson Editor-in-Chief A 10-cent gas tax increase was passed by the Alabama legislature on March 12 and will begin rolling out on August 31.  Although this is the first Alabama gas tax increase since 1992, Alabamians will be shelling out between $1 and $4 extra to fill up most vehicles after the tax comes into full effect in 2021.
