Men’s tennis defeats Sun Belt rival

Ty Ammons Staff Writer  The Troy Trojans men’s and women’s tennis teams competed this past weekend in Texas and Florida, respectively. The men’s team went 2-1 with wins over UT-Arlington and Abilene Christian. The women’s team lost to both of the colleges it played. The men’s team played against Abilene Christian and SMU in Dallas, Texas, and played against UT-Arlington in Arlington, Texas. The team kicked off its season against the No. 13 Florida Gators on Friday, Jan. 16, in Gainesville, Florida. Junior Gabriel Dias and sophomore Hassan Ndayishimye picked up wins in their singles matches for Troy. Dias won his match against sophomore Maxx Lipman 7-6 (7-1), 6-1. Ty Ammons Staff Writer   The Troy University men’s tennis team competed in the USTA/ITA Southern Regional in Auburn, on Oct. 16-18, and the women’s tennis team competed in the Samford Fall Round Robin in Birmingham on Oct. 17-19. Ty Ammons Staff Writer Troy University’s men’s tennis team traveled to Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, to compete in the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational on Oct. 3-5. Four Trojans competed in each of the four singles draws, and one doubles team played in each doubles draw. Junior Gabriel Sciacca Dias beat junior Fons Verberne from Saint Leo in his first round, 6-3, 6-0. Tennis teams finish up in New Orleans

Wally Pendergrass Staff Writer   Four Trojans earned Sun Belt All-Conference honors in New Orleans last week and both teams’ seasons came to an end at the conference tournament. On the women’s side, sophomore Trang Huynh received Sun Belt All-Conference Singles First Team honors. Huynh had a great season, finishing with a 17-4 record and had a 10-match win streak going into the conference tournament.
