Trojans extend win streak

The Troy women’s tennis team took home two victories this past week during matches held at the Lunsford Sports Complex in Troy, Alabama,  against Texas State and Louisiana. 

The Trojans started Sunday morning off against Texas State. The Trojans were able to successfully beat Texas State 5-2. 

The Trojans had incredible performances from singles Kristina Kukaras, and Amin Hagar. Kukuras beat Kiana Graham from Texas State 6-2, 6-4 gaining a point for the Trojans. Hagar followed closely behind beating her opponent 6-0, 7-5 for a Trojan team point. 

Kukuras and Hagar also competed as a doubles team, winning 6-2 against Texas State’s Kate Malazonia and Mae McCutcheon. As Sunday ended, the Trojans  were on a three-game winning streak. 

Monday morning, the Trojans prepared to face Louisiana  at the Trojans’ home courts. 

Aside from the importance of the match, the Trojans also celebrated Senior Day. The Trojans celebrated both Franzia Ahrend and Andrea Widing, who are closing out their dinal season with the Trojans, 

The Trojans once again had phenomenal performances by the singles teams against Louisiana. Ahrend beat her competitor Laure-line Monnover, 6-4, 6-3 allowing the Trojans a team point. Maria Guirguis was also able to beat Louisiana’s player after losing her second and recovering in her third set for the win. 

Widing teamed up with Aveedeva, and Valeria for doubles match against Louisiana, where they won 6-2. 

Overall, the Trojans had a wonderful set of wins, which have now put them on a four-match winning streak for the season. Next weekend, the Troy women’s tennis team will face Arkansas State in Conway, Arkansas for a Sun Belt Conference match.
